Stephen Farris - Radio Drifter

I grabbed Stephen Farris’ new EP while browsing Com Truise’s blog yesterday. The sound hasn’t changed much since he dropped the name Cosmic Sound - just more obscure, hard-hitting, sample-heavy beats under a less flashy moniker. For an EP of just three short songs, Farris really tears the speakers up - especially during my favorite track “Radio Drifter.” Grab the EP here.

Poppies - Hello The Mind Control

Say hello to one of my most favorite songs of the past year by one of the most amazing/talented bands ever to sprout from Arizona, Hello The Mind Control. These guys make fantastic, toe-tapping, passionate folk-rock that everyone should own.

Rapids - Get Better Than That

BIGSTEREO calls this Sydney band’s single “infectious,” and rightly so. Guilty pleasure pop to the max. Cute, fashiony band boys to boot… go get ‘em, ladies.

They list themselves as ‘unsigned’ and have a broken link to a ‘free EP’ on their myspaces leading me to believe (total conjecture) that these boys have just gotten themselves a record deal. Fingers crossed for ‘em!

David Byrne and Fatboy Slim feat. Santigold - “Please Don’t”

The first song to emerge out of David Byrne’s new collaboration with Fatboy Slim, “Here Lies Love.” They’ve got a different singer singing each song, and this time we’ve got Santigold. Pretty fantastic sound.

“Master’s Hands” - Charlotte Gainsbourg

The first track off IRM, the latest offering from the daughter of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin. A great ethereal, floaty feel. Very lightweight song that’s easy to get lost in. I love it!

Roll To Me (Del Amitri cover) - Shelby Sifers

One of my favorite cover songs by bedroom artist Shelby Sifers. This track was part of a 90s cover compilation by DIY free music collective/community CLLCT. Such a warm, soft, lovely turn to the song we’re all too familiar with.
